  • From Wanda.  I shall try this soon (as soon as I make a trip out to buy the right oats!)

    Crock Pot Steel Cut Oatmeal
    • Ingredients

      • 1 cup steel cut oats  (DO NOT substitute old-fashioned or quick-cooking oats)
      • 4 1/2 cups water
      • 1/2 teaspoon salt
      • 2-3 tablespoons butter
      • 1/2 cup dried fruit (raisins, prunes, apricots, dates) (optional)

      Serve with

      • milk, to taste
      • sugar, to taste
      • cinnamon, to taste
      • maple syrup, to taste

      Directions

      1. Place all ingredients in a 2 quart slow cooker. (If you want to make a smaller amount please use a smaller crock pot or crockette. This won't work in a 6 quart cooker).
      2. Cover and cook on LOW 6-8 hours.
      3. It might form a "crust" around the outside. Just scrape it down with a spoon and stir.
      4. Any leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator and heated for the next morning in the microwave.

  • So, it's taken a few months to get recipes back to my page.  I've been a little busy, what can I say?

Again, for those of you who want, please feel free to send me some recipes and I will post them here - and give you credit!

  • at home delights

Ian and I had several people over Sunday night for food and fun.  Ian used some of his paycheck from Lee to buy a new grill (before church, no less), and we drove in from Alabama, set up the grill and ate.  Not too much down time, but it was a lot of fun.  Our only real issue with this new place (other than being far from old neighbors) is the parking issue.  It's working out so far, though.

Anyway, the point of this entry is about the goodness of grilled stuff.  We did teryaki-spiced burgers on Sunday, and Monday we had maple-infused bacon-wrapped hot dogs.  Yum.  I first had bacon-wrapped hot dogs when I was in Mexico, and the kids I was with (as a private tutor) couldn't believe I'd never had a hot dog with bacon before.  My first was at the fair, which was probably horribly horible for me, but oh so good.

Anyway, any favorite foods y'all would like to comment on?  Do, and I shall incorporate them.  I'll give it a few days.

  • The food lives on

I have not forgotten about leaving recipes, it's only been that I've not had much time to research and leave posts for them.  I made a few good meals over the last couple of weeks, and I'll get those up soon.  No, I did not eat my cornbeef hash and cabbage, but we did eat at a yummy restaurant that played some wonderful Irish music (which made our meal very enjoyable; more restaurants should play Irish music at lunch time).

So, we are leaving Kansas City today, and will be home late tonight.  On the way home, I have at least one lesson plan to make on using colons (the grammar kind, not the anatomical kind).

    See y'all soon.
